Review #7: Book Lovers by Emily Henry
Rating this one 6/10. Cute RomCom! I enjoyed reading this novel. It would be a great book to bring on vacation and read over the course of a few days. Easy read with the right number of twists and turns.
Vibe: Hallmark Movie, strong female characters, right mix of cute, happy, and turmoil
Describe the book in three words: RomCom, cliché, heartwarming
Plot: Nora and Libby, two native New Yorkers, take a month to get away from it all and escape to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina – a rural town outside of Asheville. After the pair arrives, Nora runs into her work nemesis and the plot quickly thickens. Charlie, Nora’s work enemy, is equal parts brooding and mysterious. Charlie and Nora continue to run into each other and their icy relationship slowly starts to thaw.
Characters: The characters are cute yet somewhat real and complex. Nora is a stereotypical workaholic, independent, New Yorker, but it isn’t cheesy because she is very self-aware. Nora is an incredibly hard working literary agent with a passion for what she does. She describes herself as this way and explains that she doesn’t get her happy ending because of this. Nora’s self criticism makes the reader root for her along the way. Charlie Lastra is a book editor, who is mysterious, harsh, and no one’s country boy. He is a bit of a fish out of water in Sunshine Falls. Libby is the classic fun-loving younger sister – always appearing that she does not have a care in the world.
Prose: A bit longer than it had to be in my opinion, which is my only real critique. About 60% of the way through, I was ready to get to the point.
