Review#5: Live Fast Die Hot by Jenny Mollen
5/10
Mollen is funny, raw, and self deprecating in all the ways you want a hot Hollywood type to be. The five points are for readability, entertainment, and an insight into the insecure brain of a hot woman in Hollywood. The five point deduction is for general pointlessness and idiotic behavior.
Mollen takes you on her journey from being extremely insecure pre-child to slightly less extremely insecure once she has her son. She is a loving person who is quite endearing in her own way. The book is broken up into hilarious stories of her doing silly things that only hot girls could get away with. It is a fast read. She is extremely self aware, so I did not find her annoying.
I have known who Jenny Mollen was for years now, probably due to her appearance on Chelsea Handler’s special and her social media presence. I assumed she was just a famous lady who was married to a famous man and just lived a fabulous life. She does for sure, BUT she is much more normal a real than that. I don’t think she would be in my friend group (I am way too lame lol), but she definitely would be friends with fun, normal people. The way Mollen opens up about not getting certain roles or being famous enough or lighting up when people recognize her is endearing and not what I would have expected. I expected she already had the fame she wanted.
I listened to this book via Audible. It was narrated by the author, which had a positive impact. Overall, this wasn’t an enlightening read. I didn’t come out of it a changed person, but it was entertaining and good to listen to on the go. If you have a low tolerance for silliness, don’t read, but there is no need to be a hater here.
